To Wait or Not To Wait

This week has been a difficult week.  I was told by our IT team that the things I want to use to help my students won't be working for awhile, maybe a year.  I knew that I need to be patient but a year seems extreme.  At first I was sad that the IT team told me I was expecting too much and I had too high of expectations.  However, as the day went on I became very upset.  These are  some of the many reasons why:
  1. As teachers we don't get a year to get things working correctly when something new comes a long.  It is more like 5 minutes.
  2. Our students don't have a year to wait.  My students need help with reading now.  The further behind they fall the harder it is for them to catch up.
  3. As teachers we don't get to say that parents or administrators have too high of demands or high expectations for us.
My frustration compounded when I am stuck in two worlds.  I try to use technology and it doesn't work so I need to go "old school" however when I do that I am in trouble for using paper.  What am I suppose to do?

Fellow teachers, what would you do?  Are others stuck in a place like this?

Close Reading

I am new to creating close reading text passages. I started creating them because I couldn't find any that would meet the reading level and social study or science standards I needed to teach. If anyone has great resources I would love to know about them. So, here are my first two attempts at close reading. I would love for other teachers to give me some feedback. I am interested in creating more that fit the needs of my students but I want to make sure that I am on the right track. Here in the Community Helpers Close Reading Have a great day!
